Troops martyr 23 innocent Kashmiris in February (source: Kashmir Media Service) In occupied Kashmir , complete shutdown was observed, today, against the reckless destruction by Indian troops during their five-day siege and search operations in Sopore town. Call for the strike had been given by the forum patronized by veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani to draw world attention towards the state terrorism unleashed by India in the occupied territory.
Forceful anti-India demonstrations, marked with clashes between the troops and demonstrators, were held in Sopore town while the occupation authorities had sealed the downtown areas of Srinagar .
Addressing a press conference at Saddar court in Srinagar , today, the President of High Court Bar Association, Mian Abdul Qayoom deplored that the destruction of houses and the property by the occupation troops in Sopore was carried out in line with a premeditated plan. Earlier, leading a delegation of the Association, he visited the area and sympathised with the affected families.
Over 50 houses were damaged by Indian troops in the aftermath of an encounter at Chinkipora in Sopore, which resulted in the killing of four army personnel including an officer.
On the other hand, the data issued by the Research Section of Kashmir Media Service, today, revealed that Indian troops, in their continued acts of state terrorism, martyred 23 Kashmiris during the last month of February. These killings rendered 4 women widowed and 13 children orphaned. The troops disgraced 1 woman and tortured 458 persons, injuring most of them critically by using teargas shelling and bullets on the peaceful demonstrators. Indian police arrested 204 people and subjected 3 of them to custodial disappearance. The troops also damaged 54 residential houses with heavy mortar shelling during the month. |
